Status epilepticus (SE)

Status epilepticus (SE) is a single epileptic seizure lasting more than five minutes or two or more seizures within a five-minute period without the person returning to normal between them.Previous definitions used a 30-minute time limit.
Treatment
- Admit the patient.
- Keep patient in left lateral position.
- Do suction.
- Give 100% O2 (or bag and mask ventilation or mechancial ventilation.
- Check Blood sugar level if less then 60 mg then give 10% 5ml/kg stat.
- Give Ing Midazolam ….If Seziure not control repeated 2 times.
If no response after 30 minutes give inj Phenobarbitone ( Age< 1 years) can be repeated at interval of 30 min up to 3 times.
If child is >1 years then give Phention I/V Bolous in 15 or 30 min diluted in N/S Saline 1;1 dilution.
If No Response start Ing.Midazolam Infusion and SHIFT in ICU.
IF CHILD IMPROVED ;
Detail History and CNS Examination.
Send Proper investigation
CBC,Glucose,S/Electroltyes,Calcium,Magnesium,Urea,Creatinine LFTS,
IF NO IMPROVEMENT ;
Then prepare for sedation and ventilation.Anaesthetize the patients ….!!!
